About GravIT

Geelong owned and operated. It shows.

GravIT is a Geelong owned and operated IT company based at 95 Mornington Street, North Geelong. We are a one-stop provider of managed IT, Microsoft 365, AI enablement and web hosting for small and medium businesses. 25+ years in the IT industry, serving Geelong and regional Victoria for 16 of them.

What Geelong owned and operated means in practice

Three things you'll notice, and one you won't.

You'll notice that when something breaks, a technician can be on site the same day, because we drive from North Geelong rather than a Melbourne office or an interstate dispatch queue. Geelong CBD, Grovedale, Waurn Ponds, across to Ocean Grove and the Bellarine, down the Surf Coast to Torquay. That is our patch, and we are in it every week.

You'll notice you talk to the same local people every time. Support is delivered by the Geelong team, never a call centre and never offshore. We answer the phone with your name, not a script.

You'll notice there are 25 of us, which is enough to have a specialist for the hard problems and enough to answer the phone when three things break at once, and small enough that you talk to the same people every time.

You'll notice your data and decisions stay local: hosting on GravIT-owned infrastructure in a Melbourne data centre, PCs custom-built and repaired here rather than shipped interstate, and decisions made by the person you're talking to.

The thing you won't notice is the IT. That's the point.

Where the GravIT name comes from

GravIT stands for Geelong Remote And Virtual Information Technology. Geelong, because that is where we are from and where we still are. Remote and virtual, because most support, then as now, happens over a connection rather than at a desk, and the name said so from the start.

Said aloud it is gravity, and we mean that too. Gravity keeps things grounded, and that is the promise in the name. Down to Earth IT Solutions means plain English instead of jargon, honest advice about what's worth your money (including when the answer is "don't buy it"), and technology that serves the business rather than the other way round. And when you need help: you get a tech, not a ticket.

The story so far

GravIT is built on 25+ years in the IT industry, and has been locally owned and operated in Geelong since it started trading on 1 July 2010 (16 years), long enough to have replaced our clients' servers twice, moved their email to the cloud, and now be walking them safely into AI. Along the way we became a one-stop shop: managed IT, security, Microsoft 365, hosting, websites and domains, with one number for all of it.

Why I started GravIT

I'd been in this industry long enough to know what I didn't want to build. Not a call centre. Not a queue where you're a ticket number to whoever picks up. And not a business that sells people things they don't need.

What I wanted came down to four words.

People first. Technology second.

Not everyone is a technical expert, and we don't expect you to be. We wouldn't ask you to talk us through a property settlement, or which tyre suits the van you have got on the road. That is your trade, and you are good at it. We do what we do so you can get on with what you do.

So we're solution providers before we're anything else. We're here to help, not to handle. Handling is what a queue does. Helping is one of us picking up, understanding the business, and owning the problem from the phone call through to the fix, including saying “no, you don't need that” when that's the honest answer.

The technology keeps changing. We've replaced our clients' servers twice, moved their email to the cloud, and now we're walking them into AI. The job underneath it hasn't changed at all.

Get that right and the rest looks after itself.

What that looks like day to day

  • We go after the cause, not the symptom. A bandaid gets you to Friday. If the same thing breaks again next month we have not fixed anything, so we find out why it happened and deal with that.
  • We'll tell you the real fix, even when it's the bigger one. If the honest answer is “replace it”, that's the advice. If the next model up solves the problem you'd hit later anyway, we'll say so, and we'll tell you why.
  • Value beats price. Nothing is truer in IT than you get what you pay for. When something's cheaper there is a reason for it, whether that is a shorter warranty, real-world performance that doesn't match the spec sheet, a higher failure rate, features that aren't there, or no sensible way to manage it. We'd rather explain that once than replace it twice.

Pako Festa

Proud major partner
Victoria's largest free celebration of cultural diversity

We are a proud major partner of Pako Festa, Victoria's largest free celebration of cultural diversity, held each February along Pakington Street in Geelong West. Run by Cultura, it has been going since 1983 and now draws crowds of more than 100,000.

Backing it was an easy decision. Pako Festa is the day Geelong looks most like itself: a kilometre of street closed off, hundreds of performers in the parade, and most of the region turning up. We are a Geelong business, our staff and our clients are Geelong people, and supporting what makes the place worth living in is part of the job rather than a marketing line.

PCs For Kids

Proud partner
We donate computers and equipment for refurbishment

PCs For Kids is a North Geelong charity, like us, that takes donated computers, refurbishes them and puts them in front of children under 18 who would otherwise go without. GravIT donates equipment to them, and they list us among their partners. Between 2020 and 2025 its volunteers gave away 457 computers and passed $185,000 to more than 20 primary schools. If your business is retiring a fleet, they will collect within an hour's drive of central Geelong, and whatever cannot be reused is recycled as e-waste rather than sent to landfill.

Our story

How we got here

Two Geelong IT companies, running separately for two decades before they became one.

GravITNorth Geelong

  1. Late ’90s
The apprenticeship years. Daniel's IT career starts in Geelong's computer shops and service desks, the same patch GravIT works today, learned one broken machine at a time.
  2. 1 July
    2010
GravIT opens its doors. Built on one idea: when you ring, a technician answers rather than a script or a queue.
  3. 2017
A crumpled ball of blue paper drawn as a lightbulb. Nobody knows why.
A new website, and a lightbulb. A crumpled ball of blue paper at the top of the homepage. Nobody in the office has ever been able to say what it had to do with IT, but we liked it. So it stayed for nine years, now it lives here too.

Hewstone ITSouth Geelong

  1. 1989
Founded in Geelong. It starts out as a computer manufacturer, building the machines it sold and then servicing what it built.
  2. 2000s
The hardware years. A hardware house on Bellerine Street with its own online catalogue: a Sun Microsystems dealer, with Ricoh, HP, D-Link and Canon on the shelves.
  3. 2010s
From boxes to service agreements. The work shifts to professional services and support across business, education and health, with Geelong’s medical practices especially.
  1. 2023
The Hewstone IT merger. Two Geelong IT companies became one. After nine months of quiet groundwork, GravIT merged with fellow local provider Hewstone IT under the GravIT brand, bringing seven new teammates and more than 45 years of combined experience under one roof. Clients kept the people they already knew; those people gained a bigger team behind them.

  3. Today
One team, one patch. 25 people at 95 Mornington Street, North Geelong, a single accountable team across IT, Microsoft 365, AI, web and phones, still answering with your name and still backing local events like Pako Festa.
