Your website runs on your domain. So does your email, and every login that sends a reset to it, and the address on your invoices, your signage and the side of the van. It is the one asset where losing it takes all of that down at once, and unlike a server or a laptop, there is no replacement to buy. Somebody else has it.
Which is why the paperwork behind it deserves more attention than it usually gets. Four things worth being certain of.
- The registration details are correct and current
A .au name requires an eligible Australian presence behind it, normally an ABN or ACN that genuinely relates to the name. That is a live requirement, not a one-off form at registration. Businesses restructure, move to a new entity, or let an old company lapse, and the ABN the domain was registered against quietly stops being valid.
Worth checking whenever the company structure changes, because nobody is going to tell you it has drifted. - Your business is the registrant
The registrant is the legal owner. That is a different thing from the admin contact, whoever pays the invoice, or whoever manages it day to day. Domains registered years ago by whoever built the first website, in that person’s own name, are common and usually well intentioned. It only becomes a problem when you need something from them.
If the name on the record is not your business, that is the thing to fix first. - The brand around it is protected
The common misspelling. The .com when you hold the .com.au. The hyphenated version, and the one with the word people actually use rather than the one on your certificate of registration. Each is inexpensive while it is unregistered, and each is a small opening for a competitor, a copycat or somebody phishing your customers with an address that looks almost right.
Parking the obvious variants is one of the cheapest pieces of brand protection available. - Renewals and control are somewhere reliable
Renewal notices often go to a mailbox belonging to someone who has left, or to an address on the domain that is about to expire. And plenty of providers manage domains for clients, which is sensible, but managed and held look the same until you ask for it back.

Can you transfer my domain from another registrar?
Yes, transfers in are routine. We'll move the domain without your website or email skipping a beat, and afterwards it is registered to your business and managed by us, so renewals and DNS stop being something you have to remember.
Why should I register variations of my domain name?
Domain parking keeps names pointed at your site and out of competitors' hands. Common misspellings, the .com to your .com.au, product names. It's cheap insurance against someone else trading on your name.
Who actually owns our domain?
You do, and that is the point. Plenty of businesses discover their domain is registered to a former staff member or a defunct web agency at the worst possible moment. We register domains correctly in your name and keep renewals managed.
Do you handle DNS changes?
Yes, DNS hosting and changes are part of the service. When your email provider or a developer says "add this record", forward it to us and it's done properly.
What happens if a domain expires?
With renewals managed by us it should not, and that is the job. Expired domains can be lost to resellers within weeks, so if you're managing renewals off a calendar reminder, let's fix that.
