IT Support in Tasmania

GravIT is on the ground in Hobart, attending sites across the local area. Behind that technician is the full Geelong team: managed IT support, cyber security, Microsoft 365 and the support desk that answers with a real technician.

Someone who is already there

Tasmanian businesses tend to get offered one of two things. Either a mainland provider who supports you remotely and books a flight when something physical breaks, or a local operator who is excellent but is one or two people deep, which is fine right up until they are on leave, on another job, or the problem is outside what they specialise in.

Our arrangement is deliberately the middle of those. We are on the ground in Hobart attending sites across the local area, and behind that sits the whole Geelong operation: a support desk that answers, specialists for the hard problems, and the same systems, security standards and monitoring we run for every client on the mainland. It is not theoretical: among the Tasmanian businesses we already support is a large grain and fuel company. Nobody is booking a flight to reset a password, and nobody is stuck when the one local person is unavailable.

What we actually do on the ground

The honest split is the same everywhere we work. The large majority of support is remote and happens the moment you ring: patching, monitoring, mailbox problems, new starters, permissions, backups, software that has stopped behaving. On-site is for the things that genuinely need hands: dead hardware, cabling, network equipment, office moves and new setups.

In the Hobart local area, that on-site attendance is ours. Further afield, we are honest rather than optimistic: support is remote-first, and we will tell you exactly what we can commit to for your address before there is a contract to sign rather than after.

The rest of it comes with you

Being in Tasmania changes where the technician drives, not what you get. That means managed IT support on fixed-price contracts, cyber security aligned to the Essential Eight, Microsoft 365, backup and disaster recovery, and hardware supplied ready to work rather than in a box. Hosting runs on our own infrastructure in a Melbourne data centre, so your data stays in Australia.

One small practical thing worth mentioning: Tasmania and Victoria keep the same clock all year, daylight saving included. When you ring during business hours, our support desk is open. No hour-behind, no waiting until the mainland wakes up.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are you a Tasmanian IT company?

We are a Geelong company with our own people on the ground in Hobart, which for most businesses is the better half of both options. You get someone local who can be at your office, backed by a full mainland team with specialists, a support desk that answers, and the systems to monitor and secure your setup properly. Tasmania is a growing part of what we do, not a sideline. Our Tasmanian clients already include a large grain and fuel company.

Can you attend our office in Hobart?

Yes. We cover the Hobart local area for the work that genuinely needs a person: hardware, cabling, network gear, office moves and new setups. Everything else is handled remotely, usually the moment you ring.

What about the rest of Tasmania?

Remote support works the same anywhere in the state, and the large majority of IT support is remote. On-site attendance is something we promise for the Hobart local area, and we would rather be straight about that than quote you travel time as if it were coverage. If you are further out, tell us where; we will be specific about what we can commit to before you sign anything.

Is there a time-zone problem dealing with a Victorian company?

None. Tasmania and Victoria run on the same clock all year, including through daylight saving. When you ring during business hours, our Geelong support desk is open too.

Why not just use a mainland provider who flies someone over?

Because that is precisely the arrangement that goes wrong on the day it matters. Someone already living in Hobart does not need a flight booked before anything can happen, and the remote work, which is most of it, was never going to need one anyway.

Is our data kept in Australia?

Yes. Hosting runs on GravIT-owned infrastructure in a Melbourne data centre. Your data stays in Australia.
